DALLAS – Ida Y Vuelta Flamenco & Flamenco Fever - Memorias Flamencas slated to feature the father of flamenco jazz, Jorge Pardo. Mr. Pardo, world- renowned flute and saxophone artist, was not able to attend due Covid travel restrictions in 2020. After he recently won a Grammy as a contributor in Chick Corea's Best Latin Jazz Album “Antidote”. This incredible show will be the first to kick off a Fall series concerts at the Majestic Theater. Mr. Pardo’s music will be emulated by some of DFW’s top jazz musicians and some the Nation’s best male dancers and flamenco guitarist and singer.

FLUTE AND SAXOPHONE: recently awarded Spain’s National Prize for current music, Jorge began by playing the guitar, but became attracted to wind instruments studying a great number of artists and diverse styles. Diego Carra sco, Jean Luc Vallet, Manuel Soler are some of the masters that influenced him. He has recorded 13 discs and was featured recordings and world tours with Paco De Lucia.
He recorded “La Leyenda del Tiempo” and other productions with Camaron de La Isla and worked at the flamenco dance studios like “Amor de Dios” participating in the new artistic generation “. Then, flute and saxophone become part of the flamenco world. “MIRA”, was awarded by the academy of music as the Best Jazz Album.
The recordings with “D3”, his collection “Vientos Flamencos”, his award winning trio with bassist Carles Benavente and guitarist Tino di Geraldo in the collection “Sin precedentes”, “Desvarios” with “el Bola” for RTVE, Touchstone with Chick Corea, the “Homenaje a Miles Davis” in NY, and the prestigious "Greatest Living Artist" by the French Academy of jazz are just few of his many accolades..

Our Artistic Director, Julia Alcantara, recently lost her Mother to cancer, this concert will be dedicated to her memory. Her mother's scarves, will be worn as part of the costuming, by dancers and musicians alike. The music and choreography will communicate a powerful message about how cancer affects us as a community. Proceeds will be donated to MD Anderson, in Houston, making this show a remarkable production with a unifying message that is sure to inspire the audience and demonstrate how flamenco is an outlet for our deepest sorrows. This concept makes this concert the most important in our history.

In our first rendition, local jazz artists: Cristian Valdez (piano), Lucas Reeder (bass), Luis Avila (percussion), Luckie Abejorro (cajon) lead by interim musical director Chistian Ortiz (flut/sax) painted an elborate back drop for the choreography that appear before them.
Fusion dancers, lead by Julia Alcantara were added a depth: Sandy de Lara, Samantha Valdez, Chelsea Rose Neiss, joined the team with flamenco puro dancers, Virginia Maria, Ray ‘de La Barranca’ and new students, Elisa Arguello and Chelsea Anderson.

A graduate of Arizona State University, studying guitar and composition, Kris had the opportunity to study with Frank Kuntz, Chris Champion, renowned composer Daniel Lentz & performing artist Richard Lehrman. There he developed his skills playing in Jazz combos, composing for modern dance performances, and accompanying ballet & modern dance classes on piano, guitar, and percussion at ASU for 10 years. It was during this time that he entered the world of flamenco, as a percussionist and touring with CALO Flamenco. After years of performing, touring, and teaching music at highs schools and colleges around the country, a trip to Sevilla, Spain in 2011 led to a humbling experience.
Discovering the flamenco guitar and becoming a direct disciple of Juan del Gastor: master and teacher of the legendary Moron style. Studying so intensely with the Maestro turned into to years in Andalucia, accompanying in the studios of Juana Amaya, Jose Galvan, El Lebrijano, Esperanza Fernandez, Concha Vargas, & Los Farrucos to name a few. As a guitarist for Jose Galván’s Cuadro he has performed at la Peña Torres Macarena, El Teatro de la Alameda, Caja Negra, and many other venues. He has accompanied dancers and singers such as Carmen Ledesma, Jose Mendez, Javier Heredia in Spain, and in the US, and well as touring and playing guitar for many US flamenco companies.
